ArtDepot announces the solo exhibition ‘The Arm of the Universe’ by artist Nhozagri at its Beijing 798 Art District space, presenting a selection of the artist’s easel paintings from 2024-2025. The exhibition opens on Wednesday, 31 December 2025 and runs until 29 March 2026.

Artist Statement｜Overlapping Times — The Exhibition “The arm of the universe”

It all began with how the Milky Way rubs its hands.

On the scale of the universe, the Milky Way is a holographic scale of living beings. When it rubs its hands, time and space curl up, and the density of time changes, like an invisible rain falling from different directions at the same time. These rains do not belong to a certain era, they overlap each other as they fall, forming the premise of the exhibition.The exhibition hall does not have a single time and space, and is a place where plane changes are taking place. In the same space, traces of the past, working machinery, and energy that have not yet arrived exist at the same time. The old machines in the exhibition hall are the coordinate starting point of the entire exhibition. It carries its own historical record and also has a rotating structure that changes the state of matter. When the people “swish” connect with it, this connection is not controlled or used, but more like a dialogue between ancient wisdom and material memory. The swish serves as an entrance to the universe, making the machine a node that can sense plane changes.At the other end of the space is a stone. It is a relic from a larger field, silent but steady. The holes in the stone symbolize the dwelling place of the people – wherever they can shelter from the wind and rain, they have appeased the souls. As a continuous participation in spatial relations, stones form a superposition of multiple planes with machines, people, and viewers. Here, the home is not a fixed building, but a state wrapped in time.The paintings on the walls spread like images of caves, they are a way of documenting existence. Lines extend and connect in space, and these lines are both images and skeletons of people, maintaining continuity between different planes. The ground is water, reflecting a larger information field throughout the space, allowing the viewer’s body to be included in this change.Painting is presented as a way to deliberately avoid the academic system. In an almost acupuncture language, through the lines and the bright tones they bring, images and colors are shaped as extensions of perception rather than the result of reproduction. This way of painting is associated with the artist’s spiritual practice, pointing in particular to the “third eye” as a viewing mechanism: viewing simultaneously in different dimensions. The paintings are combined in a stitching manner, forming a new structure through wooden frames, crystals and painting surfaces. These combinations are closer to a small cosmic scene in action: the manifestation of the same energy field in different planes, simultaneously presented in a state that can be seen and reassembled.In “The Arm of the Universe”, the plane shifts in place. The viewer does not need to leave reality, which has changed the way it operates in the exhibition hall.

Within the blackness lies infinite light. Nine slices appear separate yet form the whole of the black sphere. Slice open the black sphere, and all light illuminates for you. Nine suns in the heavens link and combine according to their own mysterious patterns, bestowing wondrous things upon the earth.

The sun’s light exists to remind us of the simplest yet most profound truth: give love, receive love, treat each day, each moment, as if it were sacred.

Completion and Fulfilment: As nine is the largest single-digit number, it is often regarded as signifying ‘the completion of a phase’.

Compassion and Wisdom: In certain psychological or mystical symbolism, nine is associated with universal love, wisdom, and selflessness.

The combination of Xun above and Kan below forms the hexagram name: Huan (Hexagram 59)

Huan Hexagram Judgment:

Symbolising ‘dispersion, flow, scattering, and dissolving difficulties.’

Meaning: Though obstacles arise, opportunities exist for resolution and clearance.

The Only Landscape

This work originates from the wondrous fusion of a small spirit and its tail, where the angle between tail and body forms the shape of a table. The table is not merely an object, but a field carrying multiple timelines and narrative energies. A species from another spacetime “dines” upon the table, symbolising how stories, memories, and energies are perceived and experienced in an instant. Much like the sound of a high monk imparting teachings, the narrative energy upon the table transcends distance and timelines, forming a microcosm. Through transformations in form, movement, and perspective, objects and stories, energy and time overlap within the composition, presenting a non-linear, multidimensional cosmic narrative.

The tail, an appendage beyond the body, prompts us to heed what is overlooked; dining is a collective act, embodying synchronicity theory and a blessing for the world’s unity.

Ascend. The core meaning of this hexagram is ascent, growth, advancement, and development. It emphasises natural and steady progress achieved by aligning with one’s true nature, relying on inner virtue, and sustained effort.

Family. The core meaning of this hexagram is family, ethics, internal relationships, and management. It explores the principles of fostering harmony and order within an organisation, particularly the family.
