Beijing-born Chinese artist Nhozagri has transformed the exhibition space of Northing Bergen East Asia Arts and Culture Center into a microcosmic universe — a newly formed dimension shaped by the intersection of time and space. Here, past and future collide quietly, unleashing a fresh and indescribable experience.
On the surface, Nhozagri’s cross-media works continue the lineage of East Asia’s “kawaii” aesthetic — a movement that has swept the globe over the past few decades under the influence of leading artists such as Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, and Yoshitomo Nara. However, beneath this charming surface lies a profound foundation of Eastern mysticism. For Nhozagri, artistic creation and spiritual practice are inseparable tools — means to transcend the limitations of the body, comprehend the complexity of a multidimensional cosmos, and pursue higher states of consciousness.
In our hyper-digitized yet increasingly isolated age, we find ourselves caught in the currents of malicious unknowns. In response, Nhozagri constructs a refuge both real and fantastical — a “modern wishing well” composed of (partially edible) installations, paintings, and performative gestures. It offers viewers a moment of comfort and the possibility of reconciliation with a world overflowing with tension.

♡ ·  Super Nhoazgri Kingdom

It’s a crowded kingdom founded and ruled by the superior King Nhozagri. Her subjects are the super sweet Mollusk citizens, who adore her and admire her creativity. They praise her generosity for bringing them into being and sharing with them a glimpse of her own world – the three-dimensional world of human beings. For them, it’s a magical realm, filled with creatures who look just like their creator, buzzing about, minding their own business. Perhaps they, too, are creators of other kingdoms? But the Mollusk citizens prefer to believe that’s their king’s unique superpower. At least for them, her creativity isirreplaceable and irreplicable.

♡ · Mollusk citizens

The humble, self-contained citizens of Super Nhozagri Kingdom manifest themselves on Earth only through the power of their superior King Nhozagri. Later, the king also taught them about the concept of time and space in the three-dimensional world, although the knowledge seems quite useless to them – they are enjoying a totally different dimension, and the physicality of their existence there is very different. Every time they open their eyes, they find themselves somewhere else in the world of their king. They need those eyes only in the three-dimensional human world – not for seeing, but for being seen. Once earthlings spot a pair of eyes, they immediately recognise and acknowledge the presence of Mollusk citizens, even though they might have already been there for quite a while.

♡ · Wave spell

The superior king never described how she discovered the channel between the three-dimensional world and the other dimension where she created the kingdom and all its citizens. But through creation, she released the wave spell, which made it possible for her creations to manifest in the three-dimensional world. Like this time in Bergen, the wave spell is so strong that the whole Northing Space becomes an intersection of the human world and the Super Nhozagri Kingdom.

♡ · Edible invitation

To enter the intersection, you need to be invited. The invitations are collected in a punnet by the entrance. Pick your favourite colour (it might also be your favourite flavour), Place it in your mouth, and let it melt. You are now officially invited to be observed by the Mollusk citizens from the Super Nhozagri Kingdom.

∞~∞~∞~∞~∞~∞~∞~∞~∞~∞

♡ · Emotional milk

Before your first (eye) contact with the Mollusk citizens, please adjust your emotions to a very stable and positive state. If that feels difficult – because the world is tumbling down around you, the news on SoMe is all bad, and the other exhibitions are just too demanding for your mental energy – don’t worry. Pick a cup with the emotion you need most right now to calm you down or lift you up. Mix your own emotional milk and drink it, and don’t forget to finish off your cup, too. Yes, it’s edible, and delicious, just like the invitation. Now you are ready to make new friends from another dimension.

♡ · Wishing poolne

If, after all these rituals, you are still yearning – to be better, happier, more productive – make a wish. The wishing pool in front of the fallen angel is just a physical symbol, one you are familiar with, so you can trust that your wish will be granted in the end. The wishing channel is now open, down there…
