Born at the universe’s end

HAPPENING

Nhozagri traverses painting, sculpture, animation, and a wide range of media to construct an autonomous cosmology of sentient lifeforms. Trained in traditional printmaking—earning her BFA at the China Academy of Art (2010) and MFA at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (2015)—she has since expanded her practice into a speculative realm where imagination and mythological narratives engender a universe of their own.

Her work borrows the guise of the cute and the enigmatic to blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy, inviting viewers to reconsider the relationships between inner and outer worlds, between the human and the non-human. Playful yet deeply philosophical, her practice is aligned with what she describes as an “enduring pursuit of the ultimate dream.”

Exhibited across Asia, Europe, and North America, and in collaboration with global brands such as Marc Jacobs and Nike, Nhozagri has expanded her practice into the wider field of contemporary visual culture, weaving together sacredness, playfulness, and boundless freedom of form.

This exhibition departs from the assumption that the world we recognize unfolds along a continuous dimension. Beneath its surface, however, lies a stratified landscape: a sensory layer prior to language, a liminal space unbound by temporal order, and delicate ecosystems in which imagination crystallizes into form. It is precisely within these interstitial spaces that Nhozagri’s work emerges.

Her practice resists preordained design. There are no sketches, blueprints, or schematic prescriptions; instead, each work arises through the act of “becoming,” shaped by breath, intuition, and immediacy. This process echoes traditions of improvisation and openness while simultaneously articulating resistance to the normalization of form.

Painting, installation, GIFs, textiles, toys, resin, even nail art—these diverse media are treated without hierarchy, each serving as a vessel for constructing an organic ecology. Within this ecology dwell beings known as Molluske: fragile yet autonomous, soft yet radiant with inner light. Their “fragility” is not weakness but the condition of openness itself—a poetics of vulnerability that gestures toward another mode of resistance beyond conventional definitions of strength.

Dream Guardians does not treat “cuteness” as superficial ornament or mere semiotic token. Rather, it functions as an aesthetic language enabling nonverbal cognition and emotional immersion. Cuteness here becomes a threshold, allowing audiences to enter a parallel dimension that is at once unfamiliar and intimately resonant. Within this space, the viewer is no longer a passive spectator but a temporary inhabitant of another world.

Ultimately, this exhibition proposes a reversal: while we have long believed we were the ones preserving dreams, it is the dream that has been preserving us. What unfolds is Nhozagri’s vision—where vulnerability and resilience coexist, and where art bears witness to the fragile, transient, yet immeasurable worlds that demand our guardianship.
